Felicia is from Raleigh, North Carolina. She moved to Asheville five years ago to attend the University of North Carolina at Asheville, graduating in December 2014. Felicia was drawn to the Tzedek Residency because, after graduating with a degree in Sociology, she was not sure what the job market would look like for her. Felicia did not expect to find gainful work in Asheville, especially in her field. She has a strong commitment to social justice, and once she read about the residency, Felicia knew that she had to apply.
Felicia works as a Community Organizer for the Campaign for Southern Equality, an LGBT rights organization based here in Asheville. In this role she is helping to coordinate the annual LGBT* in the South conference as well as #LGBTSouth convenings in Hattiesburg, MS and Birmingham, AL. Felicia is getting experience in grant writing, marketing, and lots more. After this year in the residency, she hopes to continue her work in social justice and community organizing, attend graduate school in the future, and to make some time for travel and reflection.
