Lukas La Riviere
As a Tzedek Social Justice Resident in the Center for Gender and Relationships, Lukas created programming, events, resources, and service opportunities for students at Warren Wilson College with a focus on LGBTQ initiatives. He also worked within the greater off-campus community in forming connections through shared projects and events. Lukas planned a workshop on Environmental Racism with the student Environmental Justice Crew and social justice activist Mandy Carter. At the college he adapted policies to increase the number of gender-neutral restrooms on campus, established an LGBTQIA scholarship fund for Warren Wilson College students, and helped to make the athletic policy more trans* and LGBQ inclusive on campus. During his tenure, Lukas led a group of Warren Wilson students during spring break to Ferguson, Missouri, to learn more about the issues there and to support the local Black Lives Matter movement.
After his residency ended, Lukas assumed the position of Program Administrator of New York University’s LGBTQ Student Center. Lukas eventually plans to pursue a PhD in philosophy or a related field and to tackle social justice issues from an academic perspective.
