Neil served as Tzedek Resident at the Asheville Jewish Community Center. Neil Garson grew up in Northern Michigan and graduated from Concordia University (Montreal, CA), where he studied Urban Planning and Gender/Sexuality studies. Before becoming a Tzedek Resident, Neil worked with at-risk youth in Israel and was also involved in planning Northern Michigan People for Peace. In addition, Neil recruited and implemented programs for a social justice movement for youth called Habonim Dror. He also founded a Jewish communal house centered on social justice and was highly active in the student strike movement against tuition hikes in Quebec. After Neil’s residency, he joined the board of the LGBTQ advocacy group Just Us For All, became a big brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and continues to be on the planning committee for the Young Adult Jews of Asheville. He enjoys serving as Youth Programs Assistant Director at the Asheville JCC.
